One Day Tripper

Old times are new! A nostalgic trip in Nagasaki.

The scenery of the city of Nagasaki is somehow different from the rest of Japan, and it gives a mix of both fresh and nostalgic impressions to those who view it.

If you want to go further from the city, we recommend you go to Hasami, a town of pottery which has recently received more attention. We believe you’ll find something splendid that is “old but new” in both towns.

Enjoy “time travel” by relaxing ina Western-style building with a historic atmosphere.

The first Western food restaurant by a Japanese chef was moved and reconstructed as a café in Glover Garden. We recommend the Japanese sponge cake and Dutch coffee set to taste in this retro-modern space. Lightly sweet Japanese sponge cake and coffee slowly extracted in a 24-hour process are an excellent match. Take a seat by the window, where you can view the town and port of Nagasaki to enjoy the relaxed time.

Looking for a new Nagasaki souvenirwhich combines the old history and a modern sensibility.

A variety shop which offers original items inspired by the culture of Nagasaki. There is a satisfying variety of goods including books on the history of Nagasaki and cute sundry goods like a Japanese sponge cake-shaped chopstick rest. Tatematenu (1,050 yen~) are hand towels with illustrations of local scenery, buildings, and historic people, which were highlighted by Takaaki Takanami, the shop owner, who read a wide range of literatures about Nagasaki. At least 40 kinds of hand towels are always exhibited, and all of them are suitable as a new souvenir from Nagasaki.
